Have you ever wanted to save the day from impending (space) disaster? Have you ever not quite felt yourself after waking up groggy? Now you can do both at the same time!
In the Hypersleep Terminated RPG, you and the other players portray characters in a space disaster movies. As can be expected, some of you are going to die. It's just a question of when and how dramatic you can make it. When your character is gone, you become a producer on the movie and continue to influence the story, for good or ill, right up to the exciting conclusion.
In this zero-prep, GM-less roleplaying game, you'll pick a character archetype (like the Loveable Rogue, Sidekick, or Troublemaker) and give them a name. Then you wake up from hypersleep to the computer telling you there's a problem. You slowly build your character over the course of the first few scenes as you remember who you are following an abrupt ejection from hypersleep.
And then things get dangerous. You'll split scenes between drama/character development and threats, working your way through a 3-act movie structure provided by the game. Players take turns being the lead character, the director (who fills in some details for each scene), and supporting characters.
You'll take on disasters like AI Gone Bad and Monster Inside. In the end, you need to overcome enough threats to proceed to the final threat. And that's where you learn if you manage to avert disaster...and who makes it out alive.
If your character dies a hero (or a coward) earlier in the story, you play a producer and influence the story. And there are other ways for you to continue to interact with the game. So you'll still have plenty to do even if your character bought it taking down a cadre of space pirates.
Hypersleep Terminated shares some DNA with Die Laughing, a GM-less, horror-comedy RPG. So if you like that one, you're sure to dig this one. Both are designed and published by Craig Campbell and NerdBurger Games.
The Kickstarter campaign ends on May 16. So hop aboard the spaceship with the rest of us and home you make it out alive.
