Vallejo workers allege extensive factory neglect and “authoritarian” management amid ongoing strike
Unionized Acrylicos Vallejo staff claim management is moving gradually to the bargaining table.
More information behind the ongoing industrial action by workers at the Vallejo factory near Barcelona has been reported, including a list of grievances against management that includes dangerous working conditions and biased, outdated safety protocols. As previously reported by Rascal, over 98% of the 85-person workforce began a partial strike at the end of November, ceasing work for two hours each shift. The union escalated to a two day, 24-hour stoppage on December 11 and 12 due to management’s perceived lack of response to the strikers’ proposals.
Strike details have been difficult to ascertain as English speaking audiences rely on local Spanish or Catalan publications. Rascal commissioned a translation of an article by Roc Martinez for Poder Popular (credit to Judit Tur and Misha C. Gramelius) which contains statements by Patricia Pérez, CGT union member and president of the works council.
