You are the Magus, the wizard of the lonely tower. This is your story. The quest for ultimate arcana—colored by sacrifice and despair.
How far are you willing to go to attain ultimate power? The Magus and The Oracle explore the anguished depths of this question through an evocative game that has garnered international recognition and acclaim.
The Kickstarter campaign, which launched on 1 February and ends on 29 February, will bring to print The Magus, an award-winning solo journaling RPG of pathos, arcana, and the infinite loneliness of power; and The Oracle, a deck of inspiration cards filled with prompts that work with any tabletop game. Both The Magus and The Oracle feature the work of ENNIE-nominated and Diana Jones Emerging Designer momatoes.
In The Magus, players take on the guise of a lonesome wizard and progress through life events that test their skills, meeting fantastic creatures along the way. Meanwhile, an infinitely alluring temptation hangs in the air: does the Magus hold on to their humanity, or sacrifice those they love in exchange for the sweet release of power? The game offers relatively crunchy mechanics for a journaling game, utilizing all six polyhedral dice for challenge resolution, alongside the management of character aspects.
The game is paired for the first time with The Oracle, a 78-card deck inlaid with artwork from momatoes. Each card features short but evocative prompts for words, bonds, and moods to offer thousands of possibilities for creative play.
The Kickstarter campaign blazed through its initial funding goal of 7,000€ and to date has funded over 4x the amount. The funds have unlocked several stretch goal rewards, some of which improved the production value, while others offered new content in the form of 2-player rules, pamphlet games, and even the addition of a whole new setting.
The campaign ends in less than seven days on 29 February. Back it before it's too late!
