Workers at three New York City local game stores have won agreements to five contract demands from management and avoided a strike, for now. Tabletop Workers United, composed of staff at Hex&Co, the Brooklyn Strategist, and the Uncommons, announced on December 11 that it had won “key non-economic demands on Scheduling, Jurisdiction, Gender Identity, Internal Promotions, and Accommodations.”

In an email sent to Rascal, a TWU representative said the victory “means no more surprise clopens (back to back closing & opening shifts) or doubles, consistent hours and shifts, receiving schedules two weeks in advance, protections from ‘bleed’ of responsibilities, protections against taking union workers’ hours away and giving them to someone out-of-unit, enhanced disability accommodations, protections for trans and gender non-conforming employees, and guaranteed interviews for qualified unit members for any future job openings or promotions.”
