Step into the Strange and Surreal: Absurdia 1.0 available now!
Subvert normalcy and embrace chaos in this PbtA game inspired by Welcome to Night Vale, Alice in Wonderland, and Gravity Falls.
After a successful itchfunding campaign and two years of refinement in early access, the 1.0 version of Absurdia is officially available!
Absurdia is a modern fantasy roleplaying game about the inane hilarity and understated horror of everyday life, inspired by works of absurd humor, surreal horror, and literary nonsense like Welcome to Night Vale, Alice in Wonderland, and Gravity Falls. Absurdia employs a novel take on the Powered by the Apocalypse game system that embraces collaborative storytelling, social dynamics and non-combat solutions, and discovering the delight of "going off the rails."
Players take the role of residents of a strange suburban town where the otherworldly is ordinary and the mundane, terrifying. Unmoored from space and time and wracked by the surreal entropy of chaos, you'll contend with occult bureaucracy, megalomaniacal PTA, sentient cars, malevolent garden flora, an non-Euclidean network of back alleys, and the occasional extradimensional cosmic horror in a darkly idyllic community.
Nine unique playbooks drawn from the game's strange and surreal touchstones offer a wide range of quirky and distinctive abilities. Collect powerful and very cursed objects as the Curio, make a mockery of linear time as the Paradox, control multiple bodies at once as the hive mind Zeitgeist, or live out your community radio host dreams as the Vox.
The 1.0 release of Absurdia features full layout and graphic design, new artwork, a significant expansion for the GM section, GM and player reference sheets, new gameplay mechanics, and a host of balancing improvements informed by over two years of playtesting.
