A whimsical goblin bashing, tavern saving, troll dismembering adventure!
Something Rotten is a colourful, goblin filled adventure for 5E and other tabletop role playing games, designed for low level characters across 2-5 sessions. Save an inn, put a troll back together, start your own goblin cult and more in this debut adventure from Troll in the Well! If funded, Something Rotten will be released digitally as a PDF and as a full colour 48-page A5 zine and unleashed in Summer 2025.

What’s The Story?
The Inn of Ill Omen has a problem. A terrible stench has appeared recently, and no one can figure out where it's coming from. It's chasing away customers and threatening the livelihood of the new owners and something must be done about it!
That’s where you come in, the adventuring party in need of a good night’s rest but instead now has a smelly inn with a big problem. Your quest to find the source of the stench will take you into dark forests, deep caves and eventually face to face with a rather dismembered (but still very much alive!) and unfortunate troll and a group of fanatical goblins who have decided this troll is their new god.
How you solve this problem is up to you and Something Rotten gives you all the tools, tables, creature profiles, troll limbs, gross bits and weird magic that players and GM’s need to come up with inventive ways to save the inn. We’ve even written full tables to generate your own goblin cults to add some flavour (and chaos) to your games!
Are you going to fight the trolls’ semi-sentient limbs and beat the goblin cult out of the cave? Why not put the troll back together and team up to take the inn for yourself? Or pit the disparate goblin cults against each other to make the fights a little easier?
Maybe a little of all the above? It’s up to you!
The adventure doesn’t end once the inn is safe either, we have written pages of side quests and hidden bits to explore too!

Something Rotten currently contains:
- Over ten creature profiles.
- Eight fully fleshed out NPC’s.
- Nine detailed locations.
- An isometric map for the final encounter (check out the sketch below!).
- Dozens of unique magic items and new spells.
All the above as well as three pages of loot tables and two pages of tables for generating your own goblin cult!
In the final product these numbers are only likely to increase as we get inevitably carried away. The stat blocks are written with 5E in mind but, simple enough so that swapping to an OSR system for example shouldn’t be too difficult.
Why Do You Need Funding?
We want to ensure that Something Rotten is a high-quality product and printed locally. There's no two ways about it, it costs money.
- We’re writers and illustrators, not layout artists and book editors. We want to hire these and pay a decent rate.
- We want to use local printers and independent local distributors to ensure each link in the production chain is fair and above board.
Who Are You?
We’re Troll in the Well! Two 30 somethings from Leeds in the North of the UK with a love of goofy fantasy. This is our very first Kickstarter!
