What is Sail the Oceans Queer?
La Lionne Publishing is excited to launch the crowdfunding campaign for their re-release of Sail the Oceans Queer. The BackerKit campaign goes live on March 13th as part of Pocketopia 2025, a celebration of creativity from a diverse group of creators collectively running portable, easy-to-learn, tabletop game crowdfunding projects.
This 2-4 player TTRPG is a swashbuckling, magic-infused game powered by the Caltrop Core system. This high-seas adventure invites players to embody daring pirates who wield both steel and sorcery.
Designed for fast, narrative-driven play, Sail the Oceans Queer features three core stats—Swashbuckling, Magic, and Heart—allowing characters to duel with a flourish, weave magic spells, and forge unbreakable bonds with their crewmates. Players will build their characters from six unique backgrounds, such as the Runaway Royal or the Down on Their Luck Merchant, and channel their spellwork through six magical foci, including smithcraft, weaving, and storytelling, or make up their own!
Every daring leap, every desperate incantation, and every heartfelt vow is resolved with a roll of a d4. Dynamic mixed success and failure roll tables ensure that even setbacks propel the story forward in unexpected and exhilarating ways. Whether you're dueling a kraken on moonlit waters or confessing your love mid-cannon fire, the game thrives on high stakes, high drama, and high seas magic.
What's new in the re-release?
This re-release of La Lionne Publishing’s Sail the Oceans Queer will include all-new roll tables for locations, scenarios, monsters, and more. It is filled with brand-new artwork by FaelDraws and a gorgeous character sheet design by Alderdoodle in a fresh layout for the game’s first iteration in print form. With the addition of all of this new and updated material, the game will be expanded from its original 8 pages to 20 pages.
Backer tiers include print, PDF, and bulk retailer copies, with add-ons available of all of La Lionne Publishing's other printed works. In addition, custom stickers, bookmarks, and prints are available to order, and Backers who support the project in the first 48 hours will receive a signed A5 cover art print.
