A new, open system for creating and running tabletop roleplaying games for group or solo play, including a game jam.

Rolling up a new d6 TTRPG system
This is a community submitted press release.

Roll Up! is a tabletop roleplaying game system designed to allow people to dive into a world of adventure with minimal fuss. Rolling up a new character, setting up a world, and starting an adventure takes just a few d6 rolls and can be done in less than a minute.

Get Roll Up! for free from Itch and DriveThruRPG. It is also available to order in physical booklet at cost price.

The system is a simple and versatile, allowing you to create tabletop roleplaying games that can be used for group games or solo games, including games with a GM and those without.

It is both a standalone way to run one-shot games, and a complete toolkit to create all new games. Openly licensed, the system is versatile and hackable, allowing games of all kinds to be created with it.

Basic features of the system include:

  • Games can get started in a minute or less
  • Only one die is needed - a d6
  • Characters have three stats that double as abilities and an HP pool
  • Works seamlessly for group or solo games with no modifications to the core rules
  • GM is optional, depending on how you want to play
  • Loads of customisation options
  • A high level of replayability

Interested in trying the system out?

There's a game jam running through to mid-September for game creators to use Roll Up! to build their own games and modules. Any type of game using the system is welcome, and all submissions will be included in a pay-what-you-want bundle once the jam is complete (creators can opt out of the bundle if they like). That's a guaranteed fun time working in a new system, and a chance to spread your work to a larger audience while earning some coin for your hard work.

To make the release of Roll Up! even more compelling, there is also a new game available using the system as its core mechanics - a tabletop racing game called Rolling Raceway. You can download it for free from Itch and DriveThruRPG.
