Oxventure Unveils New Folk Horror D&D Campaign Played with 2024 PHB
Magic Will Have Its Due.
Oxventure is one of the UK's biggest Actual Play channels. The Oxventurers Guild, their previous Dungeons & Dragons campaign, lasted six years and more than 100 episodes. After letting the fan-favourite characters of The Guild ride heroically and hilariously into the sunset earlier this year, Oxventure has struck out on an adventure yet again in an all-new campaign.
Wyrdwood, led by dungeon master Johnny Chiodini, is a striking departure from the non-stop antics of their previous setting, Geth. Gone are the idiom wizards, puns, and lung-dwelling fish with swords. In their place is a world grounded in low fantasy, a world where magic has turned on its casters and thrown society into turmoil. A sense of mounting dread creeps up on the players as the bargains that kept the peace between the Common and the Wild Folk begin to disintegrate in a land thrown into catastrophe.
But never fear—the familiar humour of the Oxventure crew can never really be stopped. Wyrdwood balances the darkness of true English folk horror with the whimsy of friends gathering for a game of D&D.
Wyrdwood is one of the first actual play series ever to use the new 2024 Player's Handbook as its base. The team are excited to breathe some fresh air into their D&D and let loose with some incredible new characters.
Oxventure is bringing some custom mechanics to the table with a new addition created by Johnny Chiodini called Debt. Each time a player casts a spell or uses a magical ability, it adds to their Debt Score. At the end of each session, the players must roll a D100. If they roll their Debt Score or below, they will receive an envelope. Next time that player casts a spell, they must open the envelope to reveal how their magic has turned on them and created a Chaos Magic surge.
The incredible players behind Oxventure Wyrdwood have created some remarkable new characters for this campaign. Some have even brought unique homebrews to complement their characters' unusual natures.
While Wizards of the Coast did not sponsor Oxventure to play with the new PHB, it did provide advanced copies and is sponsoring a stand-alone character creation discussion video, which will arrive some time after the first episode in September, as well as some short-form promotional material.
Oxventure: Wyrdwood arrives on Friday, The 13th of September, only on YouTube.com/Oxventure.
