:Otherscape, the Cyberpunk tabletop RPG from Son of Oak Games, the studio behind Legend in the Mist, will be getting a new setting book called Cairo:Otherscape and a new supplementary book called Neuro:Otherscape.
Voted as the most wanted setting book by the :Otherscape community, Cairo:Otherscape will feature an entire fictional Megacity based on the Egyptian capital and the surrounding region. The upcoming book will include a unique take on Ancient Egyptian mythology, placing its famous Pantheon of gods, monsters and legends into a futuristic cyberpunk dystopia.
In :Otherscape’s first ever Megacity Campaign, players will investigate a plot perpetrated by a conglomerate of corporations seeking immortality by collaborating with powerful gods like Sobek, Horus and Isis. You can choose to support the local resistance organized by the Agdaa’naas- or true Egyptian people - to thwart this plot and prevent the CEOs’ rise to godhood, by completing a series of jobs throughout Cairo and Alexandria.
Thanks to contributions from a team of Egyptian game writers, Cairo:Otherscape will also contain themebooks, items, challenges and factions inspired by Arabic mythology - such as the Evil Eye and Ifrits or Jinn - themes of international interference, including foreign archaeologists stealing Egyptian relics, and Cairo’s own incredibly diverse population.
The 300+ pages of Cairo:Otherscape will feature:
New Player Options:
Character Tropes, Theme Kits, and Specials for your merc PCs, so you can play as enhanced archaeologists, elusive market runners, evil eye hexers, or the mysterious jinn
New Loadout Catalog:
100+ items – from ancient Egyptian relics through high-copy fashion to desert-adapted military tech – to load up as you venture out on your jobs
New Challenges and Power Sets:
Geneticist high priests, artifact smugglers, graveyard ghouls, blood-sanctified military mecha, and giant Set Animals to throw at your players
A New Pantheon of Key Players:
From an AgTech corp ruled by Sobek God of the Nile, through the people’s resistance in the Cairo markets, to the Afarit who dual-exist in meat- and cyberspace
A Megacity Campaign:
A high-octane adventure series that will take your crew across the Cairo Megacity and pit them against pharaonic powermongers, cunning hustlers, and the evil spirits
Introducing Neuro:Otherscape!
Neuro:Otherscape, voted as the most wanted supplementary book by :Otherscape community, will be focused entirely on further fleshing out the game’s concept of Cyberspace - or a virtual world that exists in tandem with the real world, or Meatspace.
The upcoming book will contain a new set of rules for entering, exploring and surviving Cyberspace and its many threats: which now include various mythical entities from the supernatural dimension known as the Otherscape. As well as providing players with additional Cyberspace rules, themebooks, equipment, challenges, factions and jobs, Neuro:Otherscape will introduce you to the ongoing invasion of Cyberspace by the denizens of the Otherscape and its effects on the virtual world.
This supernatural encroachment has resulted in entire sections of Cyberspace being transformed into the realms of godly deities: geographically changing in response and becoming far too dangerous for the average human to venture into. Whilst corporations and their AI servants are attempting to take back these occupied areas of Cyberspace, powerful Jinn wreak havoc, cowboy hackers roam a lawless virtual frontier and savvy criminals take advantage of the chaos to steal as much data as they can.
The 300+ pages of Neuro:Otherscape will feature:
New Player Options:
A new Themebook for your own Domain/Realm + Character Tropes, Theme Kits, and Specials for hacker and harnessed mercs, such as Nearspace data thief, a forked instance of the Sun Wukong AI, or a single-minded AI entity
New Loadout Catalog:
Software and hardware for the wired mercenary – harnessing consoles and neural jacks, intrusion and forging apps, decryption tools, streaming rigs, brute-force VR weapons - both code-based and Mythic!
Expanded Cyberspace Rules:
Elaborating on the core cyberspace rules, Neuro:Otherscape will add a hacking and harnessing guide, new cyberspace Limits and statuses, new cyberspace Consequences, and new guidelines for cyberspace exploration!
A Database of Cyberspace Challenges:
A wide range of enemy hackers, firewalls, algorithmic ICs, rogue AI, and network disasters for your crew to contend with, as well as the cyber-Mythic hybrid Conjurations of the Apotheosis
Factions of the Net: Key Players:
The Epis Corporation cyber division, the Gray Hat Rodeo of frontier hackers, the Intelligence Sea of melded AIs, and the legendary gods conquering a thousand Domains at a time
Five Cyberspace Jobs:
If you liked the :Otherscape demo game job, BNZ4I10 Anomaly, or the Tokyo “train heist in cyberspace”, get ready for five more wired jobs that bring your whole crew online for heists, investigations, and political intrigue
