MÖRK BORG’s official action figure is… cool?
Who will win: my distaste for lifestyle merch or One Bony Guy?
I am not a merchandise person–let’s get that established up top. Funko Pops give me the heeby-jeebies, and I was never deep enough into comic books to develop an appreciation for a well-crafted line of heroic poses. I just don’t have that dog in me (my dog annoyingly insists on purchasing expensive hardcover books that sit on a shelf like trophies, so stones, glass houses, etc.) The point is most of my merchandise is sentimental, tied to a poignant memory instead of signposting my personal taste in media.
So, why is this silly MÖRK BORG skeleton so appealing? Stockholm Kartell, the two-person studio behind the doom metal tabletop sensation, has teamed with Severed Books and Toys to crowdfund an official action figure. For an indie RPG. Of the goat head-wearing skeleton on the book’s front cover. It’s absurd! Who does this? MÖRK BORG is an OSR-style game that doesn’t use square grids for combat, so there’s not even a miniature precedent to warrant a fully-sculpted, seven-inch toy with… eleven points of articulation? Excuse me?
