Matthew Lillard promises his new bourbon tastes better than Grog's eye-watering drink
Find Familiar Spirits want to build community through premium, luxury whiskey… now for Critters.
Matthew Lillard, one of the co-founders of Beadle & Grimm’s, the host of Faster Purple Worm, Kill Kill, and now a purveyor of fine spirits through Quest’s End, is crossing media streams by bringing Critical Role into Quest’s End. Well, not literally. Who knows when Season 3 is going to end, really?
Rascal sat down with Lillard to talk about Find Familiar Spirits and Quest’s End newest whiskey offering—Sandkehg’s Hide, a bourbon inspired by an in-universe spirit from Season One of Critical Role, mixed and crafted specifically for Critters. The rest of us geeks might be able to snag some too, if they’re not sold out.
The start of the interview was all over, but we're keeping some of that banter. It's my site, I can do what I want.
Lin Codega: Honestly, I think making bad art is good sometimes. I think we should just make bad art more often.
Matthew Lillard: Yeah. Well, I will say this. One of the things that I teach a lot of is acting, and the one thing I continually teach is that people have to be able to take a risk, right? Anytime you stay, you're only staying in your sweet spot, you learn nothing. The idea of risk in any artistic endeavor doesn't always work out, but that's where you learn and that's where you grow.
This isn't something I was born to. I never had a job. I launched Beadle & Grimm's, but this has been a big risk. It's been a big change for me. I sit in this chair, you know, every day for too many freaking hours a day building a company. And for me, I don't want to say there's a reckless sort of abandonment about jumping into this opportunity that has been really fulfilling.
Codega: Yeah, I mean, I totally get that. I co -founded Rascal with two other people and we were just like, if we don't do it, no one's gonna do it.
Lillard: That’s amazing.
Codega: Tell me about Sandkehg’s Hide.
