Lovecraftesque digital is out!
The zero prep eldritch horror game is ideal for a Halloween one-shot.
Lovecraftesque second edition just hit the virtual shelves. It's a GMless, prepless game that creates a compelling horror mystery in a single 2-3 hour session - ideal for a Halloween one-shot. Lovecraftesque tells stories about a lone witness who stumbles upon eldritch evil, peels back layers of clues and eventually learns a horrifying cosmic truth - but almost always too late to escape from it.
- You create your own monsters and mystery that feel like something out of a Lovecraftian short story.
- All the players contribute clues to surprise and creep each other out, and nobody knows the truth behind the mystery until the end.
- The game is driven by cards, with hundreds of creative prompts and 18 quick-start scenarios ensuring endless variation.
- The game's killer "leaping to conclusion" rule ensures that the story flows seamlessly, as if an invisible GM were guiding it.
- There aren't any Mi-Go or Deep Ones—you get a completely fresh take on the genre.
- Lovecraftesque can be played solo or with a group of 2-5 players.
The game has a slick custom Roll20 playroom which includes integrated rules and teaching materials, and everything else you need to play; or you can use the print and play PDF files to play in person.
Lovecraftesque is by Joshua Fox and Becky Annison of Black Armada Games, and you can find it on their website, as well as on itch.io and DrivethruRPG.
Lovecraftesque is due out in print in early 2025. It's an absolutely gorgeous boxed set filled with lush art by Vincent Sammy and Paul Tomes. And every page is dripping with hidden blacklight art that you'll reveal using the included flashlight. You can pre-order the print copy as a late Christmas present and get the VTT and PDF right away.
