Meet the Bitchertons: Your New Favorite Regency Family
Bitcherton is an improvised comedy podcast inspired by the stories of Jane Austen that tells the tale of a wealthy family’s secrets, scandals… and shenanigans.
Lady Patience Bitcherton has unwed daughters, nosy neighbors, awful country cousins, and now, a body to hide.
Will the Bitchertons be able to keep their secrets off the pages of Lady Bigg-Withers gossip sheet? Or will her pen skewer their good name forever?
Oh bits! What a predicament!
Bitcherton is an improvised comedy podcast inspired by the stories of Jane Austen that tells the tale of a wealthy family’s secrets, scandals… and shenanigans.
A brand new show from Many Sided Media—the team behind My First Dungeon and Talk of the Table—the first season of Bitcherton will consist of 10 episodes of improvised audio fiction. Every episode will feature original music by BE/HOLD, award-winning sound design by Brian Flaherty, and a hilarious guest from shows and stages you know and love.
The series features Alex Song-Xia (Dimension 20: Mentopolis), Carolyn Page (Dropout), Cassie Willson (Hulu), Katie Marovitch (Dropout), Ify Nwadiwe (Um, Actually...), and Brian Flaherty (My First Dungeon). In addition to their on-mic roles, Page and Flaherty served as producers for the pilot episode alongside Elliot Davis (My First Dungeon).
With an all-star cast of improvisers and comedians, the series brings comedy front-and-center to the regency genre. “A hilarious take on Bridgerton from the best improv comedians! Come for the awkward outdated romance, stay for the horny vicar!” said Amy Vorpahl (Dimension 20: Escape from the Bloodkeep).
With a production process akin to the fully-improvised audio series Mission to Zyxx, Bitcherton is a bit of a departure from Many Sided Media's games-focused portfolio. Still, the series is heavily inspired by the team's love of Good Society from Storybrewers which they explored in a season of My First Dungeon.
“Jane Austen meets Oscar Wilde in this hilarious regency podcast." said Hayley Gordon, co-author of Good Society, "If you like drama, scandal, and the exploits of least favourite cousins, I highly recommend you check it out.”
Bitcherton is headed to Kickstarter on June 13th to raise $30,000 for the full 10-episode series production. The team is committed to fair pay for all performers, producers, and editors involved in the show. Additionally, they are thrilled to be working under the SAG-AFTRA Independent Podcast contract, with funds going towards actors' healthcare and pension funds.
If the show funds, listeners can expect the launch of the full series later this year. In the audio announcement, Brian Flaherty had this to say, "This is an all or nothing campaign... independent art lives and dies by your support. Help us make good art, equitable art, sustainable art, and goddamn funny art."
Bitcherton will run on Kickstarter from June 13th - July 13th. For more on the series, head to Bitcherton.com.
