Your last endling ancestor died in Hobart Zoo in 1936, no Thylacine has walked the earth since. But now your growing body lies dreaming in a cloning vat and your existence inflames the public. What are you: Scientific hubris? A new national identity? A second chance? A righting of colonial, historical or ecological wrongs?

You care nothing about that. Slowly your teeth, limbs, stripes and pouch grow. Soon you will escape.

The Game

In Growing Thylacine the table embodies one cloned Tasmanian Tiger. Take on portions (TEETH, LIMBS, STRIPES and POUCH) across four scenes and dream of pre-extinction. Roll d6s to steal narration and embrace your role until the scene meets its end condition. Then break out of the lab in a breakneck final scene!

A no-prep storygame designed for 30min - 2 hour oneshots. 5d6 system. Best for 2 - 5 players (including an optional GM) but can cater for more with rotating roles and shared responsibilities.

The Zine

Growing Thylacine will be risograph printed as a gate-fold pamphlet zine. Risograph printing is a beautiful method which allows me to combine and layer incredibly bright and vivid colours. Misalignment and overprinting gives a unique aesthetic and makes each print slightly different. It is also one of the most environmentally friendly ways to print! A digital tier is also available.

The will be A4 when folded closed, and half of an A3 sheet when opened.

Growing Thylacine is crowdfunding for ZineMonth 2025. It is Pidj Sorensen’s fifth crowdfunded zine.

The Kickstarter campaign finishes on the 25th of February, 8am Western Australian time.
