Grab some friends or set out on your own in this Cozy Fantasy Smithing TTRPG, as you traverse a land teeming with life, gathering resources to craft countless wondrous items that you can sell in your very own shop.
Tales of Forge & Fortune is inspired by several classic fantasy ttrpgs and cozy games, combining the thrill of adventure and roleplaying with the whimsy of crafting, shop keeping, and interacting with the people within your town as it grows along with you, all without ever having to worry about losing your character or progress in the process. This game can be played solo or with a group of friends.
The Kickstarter launched on October 11th, 2024 and will run until November 10th, 2024 - with the hopes of reaching the funding goal to pay for an artist and graphic/layout designer to truly bring this game to the next level. If you're curious about playing now, however, you can download the barebones Quickstart guide from either Itch.io or DriveThruRPG for FREE today, getting a small taste of what you can expect from this exciting new system!
New TTRPG Players will find Tales of Forge & Fortune simple and easy to learn, allowing players of all ages to be a part of an ever-evolving fantasy world, while enjoying a tabletop roleplaying game for the first time.
5E Players will enjoy a familiar feel to their favorite fantasy tabletop roleplaying game, but with a unique take on the genre that focuses more on crafting, collaborative worldbuilding, and an alternative way of adventuring.
Cozy Gamers will adore interacting with the town around them, getting to know and love memorable NPCs - all while running a shop and engaging in gathering, crafting, and many other fun activities that encourage roleplaying within a stress-free environment!
Old-school Gamers will appreciate character progression through achievement and/or session based leveling, with their efforts rewarded in more ways than one, improving the ranks of several crafting related skills along the way.
Create a character that you can connect with, from Level 1 - Level 20, and add every detail to the Tales of Forge & Fortune Character Sheet, which has EVERYTHING you need to play on a single page. There is even a space dedicated to drawing your character AND their hammer. After all, a smith's hammer is more than just a tool, but an extension of self!
- Character creation can be done in 5 - 10 minutes, with a focus on creating compelling characters, rather than simply optimizing one.
- Choose from any of the 14 Playable Lineages, with fantasy favorites like Elves, Dwarves, Goblins, and Orcs, or choose from original lineages like the humanoid sharks known as Squalosone or four-armed hulking humanoids known as Goltha!
- Pick from 4 Playable Classes, each with their own unique abilities. Below are a few pre-generated characters who are representatives of each class!
- 20 Crafting Related Skills, each with 4 ranks: Novice, Journeyman, Adept, and Mastery.
- As your character progresses, they'll acquire additional Talents, allowing you to choose and further customize your character to match your playstyle.
- Any weapons, armor, and accessories that you craft can be equipped. When you're out on an expedition for materials, you'll have the piece of mind that the equipment you've created will help keep you safe, if you need to defend yourself during your journey. Items that are rewarded to the players by NPCs or otherwise obtained can also be equipped.
Tales of Forge and Fortune uses its own d20 based system that works 3 different ways.
- Gathering and Crafting Skill checks are not pass/fail, but instead focus on the type and quantity of materials gathered and quality of work produced by the roll.
- Rolls outside of crafting and combat are decided by meeting or exceeding a number set by the TT, known as a Struggle Rating,to determine an outcome, where even failure can lead to interesting results, rather than slowing or stopping the game completely.
- Combat consists of opposed rolls, where the players and the TT clash dice, swords, and spells for a more engaging take on such conflicts, allowing all parties involved an opportunity to try and defend themselves, rather than standing there, waiting to see if they are hit or not.
