FLOPS Lets You Remake the Movies that Wronged You
FLOPS is an entry in Kickstarter's 2025 Zine Quest that has players choosing roles as a Director, Screenwriter, Star, or Producer, walking through a guided pre-production, and vying for control of scenes by playing cards and using role-specific special abilities as they remake a bummer movie.

The creators of Roleplay Retcon have launched a Kickstarter for a TTRPG that does what they do– remake bad movies that let you down.
FLOPS is an entry in Kickstarter's 2025 Zine Quest that has players choosing roles as a Director, Screenwriter, Star, or Producer and vying for control of scenes by playing cards and using role-specific special abilities as they remake their movie. The game also has a guided discussion where players decide why the movie was bad, lock in the things they liked about the original movie and lock out the worst parts, and mapping FLOPS's three core elements of narrative storytelling: A GUY with a SWORD on a Quest for TREASURE. Of course, it's not always a guy, the sword is often not even a weapon, and Treasure looks different to everyone. All of these elements come to play in an original Beat Map that takes cues from things like the Hero's Journey and Blake Snyder's Save the Cat! The game is designed for 2-3 hour one-shot sessions.
"I've been doing Roleplay Retcon for, like, six years now and I've learned a lot about how stories and TTRPGS work," said Benjamin Gray, the head writer and designer for FLOPS. "The most important thing I've learned is that no good idea comes from a vacuum and bad movies make great jumping-off points for something better. This game is distilled from the joy I get from jumping off those points."

As of this writing, the campaign is in its preview state, though you can follow the project and be notified when funding begins. When it launches, it will only need $500 to fund. Stretch goals include a higher-quality zine and a bespoke deck of cards by cover artist Simon WL. Both physical and digital versions of the game are available and ship worldwide. Higher reward tiers include bundles of other games by Roleplay Retcon, including last year's It Takes This Long and With a Twist of Fate, a currently unreleased game based on Superdillin's Spin the Bottle.
This is also the first game released under the Umbrella Bird Games label. Umbrella Bird is Gray, Chase Chauffe and Charlie Welsh.

Digital editions of the game will be $10 during the funding campaign and physical editions will be $15 and bundled with a free copy of the digital edition.
Roleplay Retcon is an Actual Play podcast that re-imagines infamous flop movies by plugging them into TTRPGs. It is produced by core cast members Benjamin Gray, Jensie, and Alex Blasius. It is part of the One Shot Network.
