Fallen London Kickstarter Zails Past $500,000 in a Day, with Over 4,500 Backers

Funding in just ten minutes, the Kickstarter campaign for Fallen London: The Roleplaying Game has exceeded all expectations, raising over $600,000 from more than 4,000 backers in the first forty-eight hours and quickly becoming the most-funded tabletop roleplaying game on Kickstarter in 2025! The campaign has already unlocked 13 exciting stretch goals, including a cloth map, iconic NPCs, and a dice tray, with more to come before the close of the campaign on March 13th, 2025.
Celebrating its fifteenth birthday in January 2025, Fallen London has grown from a humble interactive fiction web game of a few thousand words to a sprawling epic of 4.5 million words with multiple spin-offs. Working closely with Failbetter Games, Magpie Games has developed Fallen London: The Roleplaying Game to give fans a new way to explore the Neath, chasing grand ambitions as a group of Londoners through the streets of the Fifth City.
“We had some idea that people were hungry for this roleplaying game; they’ve been asking us about it with polite but fervent regularity since we first released Fallen London in 2009,” says Failbetter Communications Director Hannah Flynn. “But this outpouring of support and excitement has taken our breath away. We can’t wait to share more as the campaign goes on!”
The crowdfunding campaign for Fallen London: The Roleplaying Game features five tiers of backer rewards, each offering different levels of access to premium content, including the standard Fallen London: The Roleplaying Game core book, a deluxe edition core book (featuring a luxurious embossed cover, silk bookmarks, and additional delights), dice packs, limited edition art prints, and a Guide to London supplement. Fans will have until March 13th to pledge to the campaign with pledges unlocking compelling new content and physical stretch goals before the campaign ends.
“Magpie Games has been funding projects on Kickstarter since 2011; we are so incredibly proud to still be connecting with gamers through the site nearly fifteen years later,” said Mark Diaz Truman, CEO of Magpie Games. “Everything we have published since that first campaign has been because of the passion that fans all over the world have for games just like Fallen London: The Roleplaying Game.”
Fallen London: The Roleplaying Game marks the first appearance of the Ædana System™, a new game engine from Magpie Games’ award-winning design team. The Ædana System features a core dice pool mechanic that focuses on fast, nuanced resolution for challenges. During play, players and GMs can also expand a challenge into one of many intricate conflict systems, diving deeply into full-fledged contests with surprising outcomes.
Those who want to dive into Fallen London: The Roleplaying Game right now can download a free quickstart featuring pregenerated characters, a short version of the rules, and an original venture titled “The Disappearance of the Transfigured Poet” by visiting www.magpiegames.com/fallenquickstart! In this quickstart, the player characters go looking for a missing wordsmith at the behest of the Ambitious Muse. She's lost one of her prize proteges, you see, a certain Myles Remington... and she must absolutely have him back.
Fans who want to see the game in action can watch the Actual Play at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiDpWURGrG8&t=1s or on the Kickstarter page. Join Ify Nwadiwe (Critical Role, Dimension 20’s Never Stop Blowing Up), Becca Scott (Good Time Society, Dimension 20’s The Seven), Jack de Quidt (Friends at the Table), and The Stupendium (Neath! A Fallen London Musical) as they search for the missing poet—with the help of gamemaster Brendan Conway—on the streets of Fallen London!
With more than three weeks left in the campaign, there’s still plenty of time for fans to pledge their support and join this grand adventure into the heart of the Neath. Visit magpiegames.com/fallenlondon to learn more.

About Fallen London
"Forty years ago, London was stolen by bats. Now, Hell is close, immortality is cheap, and the screaming has largely stopped..."
Fallen London is an immersive, text-based adventure game that you can play for free in any web browser at www.fallenlondon.com. It comprises 4.5 million handcrafted words of deep, dark and marvellous stories, and has spawned three additional stand-alone games in the same universe (Sunless Sea, Sunless Skies and Mask of the Rose).
Creep, coerce, brawl and swindle your way through the gaslit streets of a subterranean Victorian London. You might go mudlarking off Ladybones Road, eavesdrop in the ragged old market of Spite or arm-wrestle in Watchmaker’s Hill. As your renown grows, perhaps you’ll build out a railway to Hell or sail the uncaring waters of the Unterzee in pursuit of treasure, or terrible truths.
The Neath is vast, and waiting for you.
