Paint The Town Red is a new sad vampire TTRPG from SoulMuppet Publishing, created by Zachary Cox (Orbital Blues, Inevitable, Best Left Buried) and with art direction from Johan Nohr (MÖRK BORG, CY_BORG, Into The Odd). This is a game about depression, partying and falling in love, and explores themes of trauma, vice and loneliness. 

Releasing on BackerKit on October 10th 2024 this crowdfunding campaign aims to build on the Quickstart released earlier in the year, unleashing a coterie of sad gay vampires onto your tabletops. We'll be teaming up with a fantastic range of writers and artists to bring six undead cities to life, each one on the brink of collapsing into a chaotic orgy of blood-soaked hedonism.  

We’re bringing this book to life with a beautiful hardcover book, with easy to reference but evocative layout by Mina McJanda and Johan Nohr. We’ve brought on a huge stable of talented artists and writers who have captured the whole spectrum of undead life across various histories and cultures.

We’re also expanding on GMs advice for running the game, character creation for other types of undead (like zombies, skeletons, liches, ghouls, werewolves and ghosts), and tools for building new cities and crafting your own adventures.

But what would a party be without a little luxury? In the past we’ve teamed up with Creative Quest for fancy editions of Best Left Buried and Inevitable. As soon as we mentioned Vampires she was already sending us ideas and suggestions for beautiful old leather tomes bursting with undead. So keep your eyes out for the first examples of these! What’s more, we’re in talks with a fantastic UK dice maker to create a limited run of blood-soaked vampire dice.

For those who want to see how Paint The Town Red can play out at a table, we've joined up with the amazing cast of My First Dungeon to create a whole season! Join Shenuque Tissera, Drakoniques, Ed Spence, Superdillin and Brian Flaherty as they Paint The Town Red in 1920's New York City.

My First Dungeon will be releasing episodes of Paint The Town Red throughout the BackerKit campaign, starting with a bonus episode with creator Zach Cox!

Paint The Town Red is set in the greatest cities throughout history, where the Dead mass together to form an active nightlife. Sessions of Paint The Town Red feel more like boozy nights out on the town than heroic quests, complete with pre-drinks, loud music, smoking areas and hangovers. 

Your characters are vampires, afflicted with the Curse of Undeath. Being dead feels horrid, and the goal of every character is to chase the sensation of feeling alive and escape the rot they feel in their soul.  

During character creation, your vampire chooses a Passion, something that moves you forward and makes your blood run hot. These often impulsive and hedonistic activities will make you feel good, but they come with complications that will shape your campaign. Each character chooses a Passion during character creation from a wide list of options, but every vampire also must take Drinking Blood as their second Passion. You are a vampire after all.
