Once the mourners had left, St George on the Hill was quiet once more. The wind that frequented the grassy slope touched each of its beloved gravestones in turn, ending on the newest arrival. It touched, too, the figure of a woman who had remained beyond the rest for just a moment longer. Her eyes traced the rote words written on the gravestone: Thomas Lockley, who died Nov 7th 1832, aged 62 years. “Rest in peace papa”, she thought, “if you know how.”
A.k.a. My Dad Died and All His Mail is Now My Problem
In My Late Father’s Correspondence, you play as the younger child of the deceased Col. Thomas Lockley, answering letters he can no longer reply to, and learning about the father who played a difficult role in your life. The game is simple—you will open, read, and reply to the letters you receive each day at Eadly Hall. However, family, duty, and grief are not simple at all, and as you pen your letters, you will make hard decisions about the future to come.
The game does what it promises beautifully. Hayley Gordon, writer and designer, crafts the narrative with a rare sensitivity, immersing you in a story that grows with each letter you open. As you read and respond to the letters that arrive, you’ll experience the unfolding tale over days or weeks, depending on how you choose to play—whether slowly, savouring each moment, or bingeing it like your favourite drama series.
If you’re a fan of historical fiction or interactive narratives, this game might be just what you’ve been searching for. It’s the perfect interactive literary experience for anyone craving a deep, emotional story to get lost in.
