Curses run rampant at this magic academy game for 1-2 players
Those interested in improving their magic skills are invited to enroll at Brackroot Academy, a magical school for adults! And your timing's perfect! We've added new electives to choose from in Tangled Blessings: Echoes of Lost Electives.
Since we provide free housing and meals during winter break, we ask that you take up several duties around campus. These duties might include monitoring the grounds, checking in on the chapel, removing any hexes, etc. They’re not complicated tasks, but with limited staffing during this time, we appreciate your help!
Released summer of 2023, Tangled Blessings is an easy-to-learn and easy-to-play game for creating stories at a cursed magical school. Using tarot cards and prompts, players learn the fate of their mage and their mage's rival through 4 years of studies and trials.
Since its release, Tangled Blessings has captured fans of horror and dark academia with its easy approach to roleplay and evocative writing.
Crowdfunding a print edition until September 20, Tangled Blessings: Echoes of Lost Electives expands on the lore and world of the original game, almost doubling the base game in content.
Echoes of Lost Electives is a new supplemental game book and adds nearly 140 prompts to the tarot-powered roleplaying game. This includes Winter Break activities centered around the Rival, 16 new horrifying and descriptive endings, and 14 new prompts for each of the existing five houses in the base game. Some of these expansions have had a previous digital release only.
Tucked within Echoes' pages are additional extras like roll tables, new houses to join, and contradicting origins of the academy’s founding.
Echoes also sees the work of new contributing authors. The list of guest writers includes: Candace McAfee, Kyle Tam, Rori Montford, J Strautman, Samantha Leigh, gothHoblin, Sebastian Yūe, Kendrick/Kendo, Seb Pines, and S. Kaiya J.. Echoes will also include new generation tables developed by Kat The Lore Mistress.
Playable as either a solo journaling game or a two-player tabletop roleplaying game, Echoes of Lost Electives takes the original inspiration of ghost stories and the author’s time at graduate school to deliver a cunningly dark experience that challenges players to get the best grade… or else.
In Tangled Blessings, players first draw from the tarot deck to discover who of 22 possible Rivals will shadow their time at the academy. In two-player games, players rival each other, working together to unravel their shared and complicated history at the academy shrouded in darkness.
The original Tangled Blessings game is based on the ENnie-nominated Anamnesis system by Samantha Leigh and released after a successful Zine Month 2023 crowdfunding campaign on Crowdfundr. Tangled Blessings was also nominated for Best GM-less game for the 2024 Crit Awards.
If you've always wanted a reason to buy tarot cards, Tangled Blessings could be your key to making use of them! If you don't want to buy tarot cards, playing with index cards is also doable – you just have to write down all the tarot card titles.
The crowdfunding campaign has been a great success, and there's still time to join in and support the project!
