Conviction: Cosmic Horror and Magical Hope
Conviction, now available on itch.io, is a narrative-focused TTRPG exploring human empowerment in the face of cosmic horror and an uncaring universe.
Monsters created in the cosmic battlefront between Light and Dark might be passed off as urban legends, but the Chosen know better. These mortals are the heroes of Conviction; together, the party will tell the tale of those who harness a fraction of the Twin Powers’ might to fight off untold horrors. Players will find themselves delving into warped realms to deliver lost souls, sealing rifts in space and time, and trying to lead a normal life at the same time.
This rules-light 2d6 system is inspired by the magical girl genre and the PBTA format. It is designed for one game master and between one and five players. The core mechanic is the Conviction track, a two-sided meter that measures how strongly a character is channelling either the Light or Dark. Players choose a Mundane Identity that gives them skills to improve their rolls, a Mystic Core that defines their relationship to the Conviction track, and a Focus that gives them a weapon and accompanying abilities. Combat is designed to allow light tactical positioning while remaining fast paced and entirely viable in theatre of the mind.
With Conviction, the actual play podcast debuting along with the Conviction system, tells a story of hope, horror, and history. A band of new friends in Winchester, VA will discover the world behind their own. In doing so, they will be drawn into long-forgotten battles, face terrors beyond mortal ken, and forge bonds of friendship both fierce and gentle.
