Ever seen a hotel in which you must form sentences starting with every letter in the alphabet to go through its corridors? In which some people don't like noise, so you have to speak lower and lower, until no one hears you anymore? What about a restaurant in which everyone speaks at the same time?

Well, I'm sure you've been in the latter, but it's rare that a TTRPG asks you to describe a room this way… or with dozens of equally experimental narrative challenges. This is the core of The Red Lion Hotel, a GMless, freeform narrative game, written by Côme Martin and Nicolas Folliot (authors of Meanwhile, in the Subway and Broken Cities), which is crowdfunding next month on BackerKit, as part of Pocketopia!

The game, which asks you to imagine the inside of a grand hotel at the beginning of the XXth century and the characters—clients and staff members—in it, will present itself as 108 tarot-sized cards, beautifully laid out and illustrated, gathered in a cardboard box stylishly reminiscent of art deco architecture.

Each of the game's cards will ask you to describe a place or a character by following narrative challenges that range from the original to the truly out there. What other games ask you to play objects forgotten in a room, improvise a scientific lecture or even build houses of cards?

The Red Lion Hotel launches on March 13th: click here to get notified when it does!
