36-word RPG Jam
Make an RPG in 36 words in January 2025!
A sequel to 12-word RPG Jam in 2023 and 24-word RPG Jam in 2024, 36-word RPG Jam is an upcoming game jam in January 2025.
In 36-word RPG Jam, participants are challenged to create a role-playing game in just 36 words. The constraint in word count is intended to encourage creativity and limit scope creep. We aim to inspire people to make games, regardless of their skill level or how busy they are.
183 entries were submitted to 24-word RPG Jam in 2024, and here are some notable highlights:
- Five Fudge by c.Martins is a universal system played using fudge dice, with clever layout to convey the mechanics.
- DESCENT by jonzye is about a dungeoneer descending into the abyss with a trinket and a friend, featuring gorgeous artwork.
- Dungeonerator by Serial Prizes is a map drawing game, containing the rules to create complex dungeons with the aid of a random book.
- BOOKWORM by BR Astwood is cosy micro pet simulator, but also an encouragement in working on your writing project.
- Ocean Gate by Bully Pulpit Games is a game about the perils of hubris in deep sea exploration.
- Spellify by Pusheeneiro is an RPG about going on a magical jounrey and overcoming obstacles with random spells.
- If That's What the Oracle Said by Melena Orleans is a game of divination using a music playlist.
- Spacers in a Broken Galaxy by g0ri is a gritty sci-fi RPG that uses different polyhedral dice for each character class and a shifting target number system.
36-word RPG Jam is hosted by W.H. Arthur, Luke Russel and Steffie de Vaan, and will run from the 1st to the 31st of January 2025 on itch.io.
